The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT) is a national charity that collects surplus food from supermarkets, food manufacturers and farmers to make it available at a fraction of High St prices.
For £7.50 TBBT offers roughly £35 worth of food each week, including fresh fruit and veg, chilled food for the fridge and kitchen cupboard staples such as pasta and cereals.
On Thursday, 5 May, 2pm Bullion Hall becomes TBBT's latest community hub in Co. Durham and volunteers will be helping to sort, bag and give out up to 80 orders per week, for collection every Thursday at 2pm. You have to become a TBBT member to take advantage of this fantastic offer but there is no joining criteria and you can pay for your orders on collection with cash or card. Healthy Start vouchers are also accepted.
To try out the TBBT text your full name, postcode and name of the hub you will be using (Bullion Hall) to 07860 063304, TBBT will then send you a text every Tuesday asking if you want to order (you can order different sizes: Individual - £4, Family - £7.50 or Large Family - £15), just reply YES and you order will be delivered for collection from Bullion Hall at 2pm on Thursday.
