Handyman (or woman) wanted for an exciting new course at Bullion Hall

Bullion Hall, a popular community centre based in Chester le Street is looking for an experienced handyman to design and run a 12-week course on gaining basic home maintenance and DIY skills.

The course is aimed at those who have no or few DIY skills and will give them the knowledge and confidence to tackle jobs around the house, save money on repairs and get longer life from their appliances

Areas we expect the course to cover include:

Putting together a basic household toolbox

Health and safety procedures when carrying out DIY and maintenance jobs

Winter maintenance and other seasonal jobs

Introduction to plumbing and heating systems, e.g. re-sealing showers and bathrooms, replacing washers, fitting new pipes, bleeding radiators

Introduction to joinery and carpentry techniques, e.g. fitting door hinges, mitre joints, cutting around odd and difficult shaped surfaces

Introduction to home decoration, e.g. drilling walls and using correct screws and wall
Plugs, putting up shelving, preparing surfaces for wallpaper and painting

Introduction to electrics e.g. wiring plugs, installing fixed appliances,

What to do about damp, mould or condensation

Please note Bullion Hall requires all tutors and instructors to have a current (no older than 2 years) DBS certificate, public liability insurance and two references
